Currently, James is the curator for the Taipei Startup Digest. For those whom are unfamiliar with the term, Startup Digest is a weekly email list focusing on startup and tech events across most major cities in the world. Other than that, he is part of the organizer for Startup Weekend Taiwan. James was also the project manager at Taiwan Institute for Information Industry (III), where he helped the Taiwanese government support the local startup community. Despite being a foreigner in Taipei, his background reflects his dedication towards building the local startup community in Taiwan.
James has recently left his job at III and joined Cubie Messenger as an International Messenger. Cubie Messenger is a mobile chatting app which also allows users to draw images for each other. Positioned as a fun mobile chatting app, Cubie as garnered an amazing 3.5 million downloads since their launch in April. Cofounder Cjin also shared with us their one millionth app download milestone earlier in May.
With James now onboard, he will be running international outreach for Cubie. Specifically, James will be working with partners on the ground, meeting with users and looking at growing the community. When asked about the international outreach, James shared that their largest user base is currently from Southeast Asia. As such, he will be travelling a bit to meet up with the startup community, Cubie users and potential partners. “In terms of product, we want to understand what our users like and don’t like about the application, and will be looking to add features that increase the usability and fun factor of Cubie. Ultimately, it’s about meeting Cubiers in person and making the app better.”
James also revealed that Japan is another key market for Cubie, as is South Korea, where the CEO of Cubie Messenger, Tempo Feng, went last month. Following that, Cubie also have plans to enter the US major market.
The e27 team wishes James all the best in Cubie and looks forward to sharing more news and updates from James and the lovely folks at Cubie.
