TaxiMonger wins Best of Tourism & Hospitality category
TaxiMonger is a taxi booking and review application based in Malaysia. Shortly after exhibiting at our Echelon 2012, TaxiMonger was one of the four startups accepted into SeedStartup, a TechStar affiliated accelerator program in Dubai. After they graduated from the programme, TaxiMonger has been focusing on the Malaysian market, and now beats four other finalist in the MSC APICTA awards.
The other four finalists were Qikinn Suite, Travelagi, MyTeksi and Arms F&B Restaurant POS. The inaugural APICTA Awards was launched in 2000 and hosted by Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC) of MSC Malaysia, the National ICT Initiative with the initial support of the other four member economies: Australia, Brunei, Indonesia and Thailand. The APICTA Alliance now includes 16 member economies and continues to grow.
TaxiMonger’s Founder and CEO, Nizran Noordin, said “This win validates our market and brand leadership within a short span of seven months since the launch of our taxi booking services. I strongly believe that the international composition of our startup and differentiating solution offering are among reasons that could have given TaxiMonger an edge over its competitors”.
TaxiMonger will be sponsored by MDeC to represent Malaysia at the International APICTA Awards 2012, which will be held in Brunei in December 2012. Nizran further commented that to compete at the Asia-Pacific level in the International APICTA Awards is timely given its expansionary plans and that he hopes TaxiMonger could win at the International APICTA Awards for extensive exposure of its solution.
Piktochart wins Best of Start-up Companies category
Other than TaxiMonger, Malaysia based Piktochart also won the Best of Start-up Companies category at the same APICTA Awards. For those of you who are unfamiliar with Piktochart, it is a web application for creating beautiful infographics. PiktoChart was also the Echelon 2012 Vietnam Satellite winner, walking away with the Judges’ Choice Award.
When asked about its traction, Ai Ching, cofounder and CEO of Piktochart shared that they are currently generating about RM100,000 in monthly revenue. They are currently serving a total of 90,000 free users and more than 3,000 paid users. On the retention rate, 45 percent of the free users come back to use their service on a regular basis. Most of their users are from the charity and education industries.
Piktochart stood out from two other competitors, namely, Agmo Studio as well as AppCollection. Piktochart also received the Cradle CIP 500 fund from the Malaysia government earlier this year.
