In conjunction with Valentine’s Day last week, Korean pop group Block B released a song called “오글오글” (Ogeul Ogeul). The song’s title uses a popular term that Koreans say when they spot “lovey dovey” couples. The song is about a guy talking about the girl he loves and dreams about going out with.
From the 2:10 to 2:13 minutes in the song, singer Park Kyung sings this line “비트윈에 또 추억하날추가시켜” (add another memory of ours on to Between) referencing the popular couple app Between in his song. Since that helpful plug, the VCNC team has noticed a corresponding increase in downloads with the buzz. Park Kyung is also actively spreading his song on Twitter, causing fans to question if he is using the app with his girlfriend.
According to Edward Lee of VCNC, the team noticed an increase in app downloads two to three days after the release of the song. Daily downloads have increased by 1,500, but only within Korea. Commenting on the buzz, Edward said, “This type of viral effect is showing that startups in Korea are becoming a friendly topic to the public, which is a good sign for the startup industry.”
