4 Malaysian teams to join Silicon Valley’s Founder Institute programme

By

By the end of 2014, the startups will be flown over to Silicon Valley for a two-week-long intensive programme

It is definitely not Christmas, but Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC) and Kuala Lumpur Founder Institute (KLFI) are playing Santa.

The two organisations today announced plans to send four Malaysian startups to Silicon Valley under the MSC Malaysia Global Linkages Program.

According to an official statement, these four teams will be able to travel to Silicon Valley, the Mecca of tech startups, and participate in the Silicon Valley Founder Institute (SVFI) programme for two weeks. The trip will only take place end-2014.

While MDeC will bear a majority of the costs, participating startups will be required to make an undisclosed deposit as proof of commitment.

Adeo Ressi, Founder and CEO, Founder Institute said, “It is our mission to globalise Silicon Valley. In order to do this, we focus on building sustainable startup ecosystems in promising markets like Malaysia with supportive partners like MDeC. We also think that the selected companies will benefit from seeing how things are done in Silicon Valley.”

These four companies will hail from KLFI, MDeC’s startup accelerator and other programmes under the umbrella of MSC Malaysia Global Linkages Program.

“Through the MSC Malaysia Global Linkages Program, we are accelerating high-growth startups by linking them to the Silicon Valley ecosystem,” said Ng Wan Peng, COO, MDeC, adding that this opportunity will allow Malaysian startups to look towards globalising their offerings with mentorship and coaching from industry experts.
