Organized by Thailand’s largest telco, AIS, last February, “AIS the Startup Weekends” was a stepping stone to provide support for local developers. The two-week event saw developers teaming up to form prototypes for commercialization. Well, it was no April’s Fool Joke when AIS announced the five development teams chosen to attend the training course, “AIS the Startup Boot Camp” yesterday.
The five startup teams include Close Tag, Noonswoon, TripPacker, Octogon, and Stock Guru. Each team was awarded THB 100,000 (US$3,400) from AIS, another THB 100,000 from SIPA and various supporting organizations like Microsoft with Bizspark package, NOKIA with WP Workshop and others.
Finally, after three days of working hard, the five were selected from an aggregated 25 with their product prototype in front of a judging committee. And these selected five will, of course, be attending the training course “AIS the Startup Boot Camp” for three months starting May. AIS has also invited “Hero Mentors” who are gurus from various industries, to share their knowledge and experience with these entrepreneurs.
And alas, only one will emerge as the champion. The winning team will not only go home with networking opportunities but a THB 600,000 THB (US$20,400) development fund together with marketing and PR support from AIS.
