While the world renowned F1 race is happening tonight in Singapore, Uber too has revved its engines to promote its private car taxi service. Here are three facts about Uber in Singapore that you should know.
1. Uber chose Singapore as its first Asian market in February.
In February 2013, Uber was officially launched in Singapore, the first in Asia to see such premium services. The Silicon Valley startup shared that there were quite a few reasons leading up to choosing the city-state. Firstly, Singapore has a relatively affluent population; 20 percent of households have a net worth of more than US$1 million. Secondly, there is a high organic demand for taxis at rush hour. Thirdly, there is a climate for business to grow and thrive.
2. Singapore had the second highest number of sign-ups… in the first six weeks!
Since its launch, Uber has seen its business grow rapidly in the Southeast Asian country. In the first six weeks, Singapore had the second highest number of sign-ups, as compared to all other Uber cities. They then shared, “Vehicles on the Uber platform in Singapore are high-end vehicles including Mercedes S-Class and E-Class, BMW 5 and 7-Series, and large capacity MPV vans.”
3. Uber has worked with HungryGoWhere, Tanjong Beach Club, Hossan Leong and the list goes on.
Partnerships could be this startup’s customer acquisition strategy. They have worked with SingTel’s HungryGoWhere, a popular food site, Tanjong Beach Club and comedian Hossan Leong. This weekend, Uber will also be helping riders prepare for transportation challenges incurred by the F1 roadblocks with #UBERPRIX promotions.
