Barcamp and Startup Weekend invades Vietnam this September

According to Wikipedia, Barcamp is “an international network of user-generated conferences (or unconferences) primarily focused around technology and the Web. They are open, participatory workshop-events, the content of which is provided by participants.” The one day event is free to attend and participants can put up their topics that they want to talk about for voting. There is no agenda as the content is provided by the attendees who votes for which topic they want to hear about.
The first BarCamp in Saigon was held at RMIT’s campus in South Saigon with 250 participants in 2008. Each successive event gathered an increasing number of participants – 350, 450 and eventually 600 participants. Now, BarcampSaigon is back and it will be held on the 9th of September at District 9.

Startup Weekend Ho Chi Minh
Startup Weekend is a global grassroots movement of active and empowered entrepreneurs who are learning the basics of founding startups and launching successful ventures. The format of Startup Weekend is simple, participants register and gather into teams and build a product over the weekend. A typical Startup Weekend event starts on a Friday evening and anyone is welcomed to pitch in a open mic setting. Teams are then formed organically round the top ideas. Teams then spend their weekend building the product, and then showcasing them to a panel of experience judges on Sunday evening.
For the upcoming Startup Weekend Ho Chi Minh, the event will be graced by Tuoc Huynh, the growth manager of Facebook in Vietnam. Prior to Facebook, Tuoc was the country consultant for Google Vietnam and was also their chief evangelist for the Indochina region. Besides Tuoc who will be judging for Startup Weekend, Tuan Pham, cofounder of Topica Education Group, Quoc Trinh, Former director of Avenue Capital, Thinh Nguyen, a serial entrepreneur and angel investor, Dung Nguyen, Director of CyberAgent Ventures as well as Sieng Tran, serial entrepreneur and angel investor will also be on the panel of judges.
