Singapore-based travel website BeMyGuest.com.sg today announced that it has secured S$500,000 (US$402,000) from undisclosed angel investors from the travel, financial and property sectors. It has also taken the opportunity to hire Blanca Menchaca, a former Wego employee.
Launched in beta last October, BeMyGuest now claims to have 10,000 contracted tours and activities. With a strong presence in Southeast Asia, it seems that the biggest market in terms of geography for the company is outbound Singaporean travelers and inbound European travelers.
Clement Wong, Founder and Chief Host, first came up with the idea while he was traveling in Africa, hoping to explore Kenya with an “off the beaten track” theme in mind. He had earlier worked with firms like PhoCusWright, TravelPort GDS and Euromonitor International to provide market research and strategies to travel companies globally. He added that there are about 15 in the team right now.
The current round will be used to strengthen the team, technology and marketing sectors, and build a stronger brand.
Who is Blanca Menchaca? Previously, the global head of online marketing at a travel metasearch site Wego.com, she is now the Chief Marketing Officer for BeMyGuest.
Recently, Wego made news with its Series C round, led by Crescent Point with contributions from Victoria Capital and Tiger Global. So, why did Menchaca leave Wego for BeMyGuest?
She told e27 that she had left Wego months before deciding to join the younger startup. After speaking to Wong about his plans with BeMyGuest, Menchaca was convinced that this was a new and exciting challenge she would like to take on.
She added, “Not only does the role align perfectly with my digital marketing and travel experience, but I also understand the huge potential of the niche we are in.
“All other travel content is already available online; hotels, flights and car hires. However, travelers are hungry for new and unique experiences once they reach their travel destination.”
