11 companies have been selected to participate in Facebook’s Preferred Marketing Developer (PMD) Program’s PMDHackathon, coming 16 and 17 October. Co-organized by Facebook, Joyful Frog Digital Incubator (JFDI) and TiE Singapore (The Indus Entrepreneurs), the 24-hour hackathon is looking at identifying developers with the skills and expertise to build marketing tools for agencies and advertisers.
Held for the first time in Asia Pacific, the event will see the following 11 companies work on marketing challenges identified in four key areas: Facebook Advertising, Pages, Insights, and Apps.
1. Social Gear Pte Ltd (Singapore)
2. Computerlogy (Thailand)
3. Narrowcast Inc (South Korea)
4. Fringe81 (Japan)
5. Performetrics Media LLP (India)
6. 22Feet (India)
7. Tookitaki (India)
8. GrowMint (Indonesia)
9. Mindstretch Learning Lab (India)
10. Innobirds Media (South Korea)
11. Hiiir Inc (Taiwan)
These 11 companies were selected based on a pre-requisite set of criteria, which includes prior experience with application programming interfaces (APIs), existing technology platforms built for other channels, and familiarity and experience with the Facebook advertising platform and acknowledgement from clients in respective markets.
Kiran Raghavan, Facebook’s APAC regional manager and PMD, told e27 that in Asia Pacific, the top three markets for the program are Australia, Hong Kong and Taiwan, and mainland China.
The PMD program is also said to be nascent in Asia Pacific, and hopes to support more emerging markets like India. Kiran said that these markets need a lot of support and proper investment, which will help to seed the market.
After the hackathon at JFDI from 8 am on October 16 to 6 am on October 17, five finalists will then be selected to attend a “Network and Mini-Demo” session with a group of venture capitalists at 4 pm on October 17 at the office of Facebook Singapore.
