Singapore-based pioneer developer of PropertyGuru has created a new e-classifieds website to cater to Filipinos in the Philippines and abroad
After a few weeks of public beta, PinoyClassifieds has finally been launched. The website is the latest entry into the online classifieds scene in the Philippines and will be competing against the likes of OLX.ph and AyosDito.ph that dominate the e-classifieds industry.
However, the new website has an ace up its sleeve; unlike OLX.ph and AyosDito.ph, PinoyClassifieds.com aims to cater not just to Filipinos in the Philippines, but to those all around the world.
PinoyClassifieds has been founded by Singapore-based developer Roldan Aquino. This is not Aquino’s first foray into the world of online classifieds as he was the founding engineer of propertyguru.com.sg, and co-developed the early versions of propertyguru.com.sg and commercialguru.com.sg, Singapore’s leading residential and commercial online property portals.
When asked why did he decide to enter such a saturated market, Aquino replied that his friends encouraged him to develop an easy-to-use platform without any clutter and the haphazard nature of the current sites.
Aquino further added, “PinoyClassifieds is built with geospatial features in place and the future version will allow its users to easily discover deals and products that are near to their location.”
According to the company, a mobile app is already in the works and the site is gaining momentum without any traditional marketing expenses. This, Aquino believes, is due to “organic growth” and a referral scheme that rewards members with premiums for referring people to the site.
The recent surge of interest in the e-commerce scene in the Philippines should come as no surprise, as according to social media study Wave7, the country is the fastest growing internet market in Southeast Asia.
