India’s homegrown social networking website WorldFloat has announced its new ‘social plus e-commerce’ feature City Deals, reported IANS (Indo Asia News Service). The feature will allow users to buy and sell products locally. The service will currently be available in the Indian metros — Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata and Bangalore.

With City Deals, WorldFloat is hoping to take on existing websites such as OLX, Flipkart and Snapdeal in the discount deals market, said IANS.

Pushkar Mahatta, Founder, WorldFloat said, “Essentially, we have created a combination of Facebook, Flipkart and OLX by using a Facebook-like social feed.” Currently, a City Deals tab is featured on WorldFloat’s homepage, which takes users to a connecting page. The connecting page allows access to deals in different cities.

According to Mahatta, the main benefit of the website will be that major cities would be divided into colonies and have specific pages like Janakpuri in the Delhi page or Andheri West in the Mumbai page.

IANS further added that the new feature comes free as the company would not charge users for buying and selling products. The monetisation model will be advertisement-based.

Mahatta further stated that ‘social plus e-commerce’ is the future for both, e-commerce websites and social networks of the world.

According to the IANS report, Mahatta said that the service will soon be expanded to other cities of India and across the world.

WorldFloat was launched in June 2012 as a social networking site. Since then, it has added several new features such as watching free online movies, free online education videos, comparison engine and search engine facilities.
