Maxis Berhad (Maxis), one of the mobile communications service providers in Malaysia, has announced that users of the iPhone 5, iPad Mini and iPad 4 will enjoy the high-speed LTE network earlier this month.  The telco added that the said Apple devices will now join coverage first made available last month to owners of the Nokia Lumia 920 and HTC One XL.

Mark Dioguardi, Maxis’ Joint Chief Operating Officer shared about the launching of the service for the first devices. “With Maxis 4G LTE, customers will experience greater download speeds, smoother HD video streams and lag-free gaming with better online satisfaction. We are already getting very positive feedback from our friendly user trial with most participating customers reporting no buffering or lag in video experience and extremely reliable high speed broadband. We are working towards increasing our 4G LTE coverage areas so more customers can look forward to experiencing incredible speed soon. Through our strong partnership with leading device manufacturers and content players, Maxis is indeed well-placed to provide customers with a richer, on-the-go Internet experience.”

So what is the Maxis’s high speed LTE network you might ask? Users within the coverage of the 4G LTE service will enjoy speeds up to 75Mbps, with typical speeds of 10 to 30Mbps, five to 10 times faster than 3G. And how fast is fast? Well, customers can expect their Facebook news feeds to download up to four times faster, compared to HSPA+. Backing up or uploading of big files – more than 50MB – to Dropbox will be up to seven times faster.  Outside of the coverage areas however though, devices will switch seamlessly onto Maxis 3G mobile network which reaches 82 percent of the population.

Currently Maxis offers coverage to the said areas (as of April 10, 2013)-
