While I have observed before that collaborative photo sharing apps might be a competitive space, that did not stop Seconds from growing its team and its user base. Based in Vietnam, the photo sharing app has expanded to a team of 11 and is looking to venture into the Thailand market. We sat down and spoke to the team prior to their exhibition at Echelon, Asia’s largest technology conference.
How is Seconds doing in terms of traction now?
Our average, stickiness (DAU/MAU) is 45%. We also saw our app ranking (Top Free – Photography Google Play Thailand) increasing fast from top 400 to top 50. However, the thing that encourages us is that we do have addicted users who take more than ten photos per day. These users are often girls sharing photos with their boyfriends. They use Seconds as a way for their sweethearts to see what’s going on in their lives and what they are doing. We are even happier when we see couples chatting realtime with each other. Other use cases include photo taking when they hang out with each other for meals as well.
Author’s note: DAU = Daily Active Users, MAU = Monthly Active Users
Why is Seconds taking the strategy of focusing on multiple countries instead of focusing on being the leader in one?
Actually Seconds is aiming at becoming leader in Thailand. We are performing better and better in Thailand. Female users in Thailand showed a high level of interest in Seconds during our closed beta. Since our release, they have been keeping photos and chatting by photo with their lovers and friends. That said, we are constantly listening to feedback from users to make a better product for them.
Vietnam, in fact, is where our development centre is based. So Seconds is available in Vietnam for the purpose of making and testing the product. At the moment, we do not have a marketing plan to push Seconds’ distribution in Vietnam.
What’s next for Seconds?
Our aim is to reduce all the steps from taking a picture to sharing it and making photo sharing as simple as possible for every user. So we are focusing on the user experience and user interface improvement in taking photo, sharing photos and chatting by photos. Moreover, most of our users shared with us that they want Instagram-like filters, beautiful skin filters or frames. They also want to be able to share their love photos or Best friend Forever photos to other social networks such as Facebook and Twitter. We are listening to them and we are going to add real-time filters and Post to Facebook in our next versions. Seconds will also be released in the iOS app store in the next two weeks.
