According to Business Times, US President Barack Obama will travel to Malaysia in October, and the President will be attending the Global Entrepreneurship Summit in Kuala Lumpur. US deputy national security adviser Ben Rhodes confirmed this on Twitter.
The Global Entrepreneurship Summit was first held in 2010 in Washington, DC USA and hosted by the President Barack Obama. Its fourth Summit will be the first in East Asia, scheduled to take place in Malaysia this October.
According to the official website, the Government of Malaysia will be hosting and inviting over 80 practitioners and thought leaders to come and share their views with the entrepreneurial community from around the world. Some of the topics include ecosystem building, the Malaysian startup landscape, emerging trends and many more.
Other than speakers, the event will be graced by President of the United States, President Barack Obama. A tweet from Melissa Goh, Channel News Asia’s correspondent for Malaysia revealed that not only will President Obama be attending the event, he will also be addressing the opening of the Summit come October 11.
President Obama has been known as a huge supporter of entrepreneurship since assuming office. The President has never shy away from voicing out his support for entrepreneurship, evident in his public presidential proclamation in 2009, where he declared November 16 through November 22, 2009, as National Entrepreneurship Week.
“NOW, THEREFORE, I, BARACK OBAMA, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim November 16 through November 22, 2009, as National Entrepreneurship Week. I call upon all Americans to recognize the important contributions of entrepreneurs to our economy.” – Barack Obama
The White House, under the administration of President Obama, also launched the Startup America initiative back in January 2011 to unlock more private and public resources aiming to help entrepreneurs succeed.
Chances are, we have heard and watched through the internet President Obama publicly speak and delivering his winning speeches. The Global Entrepreneurship Summit will be a rare opportunity for entrepreneurs to personally hear from the charismatic President of the United States.
