PyCon SG is here for the first time ever

Pycon SGPyCon SG will showcase talks, lightning talks and startup booths, all relating to Python, organized as a community effort by Python developers in Singapore.

PyCon SG 2013 is a three-day event from 13th to 15th June 2013 held at Republic Polytechnic. There will be many Python related talks and tutorials, targetting developers of various skill levels, as well as startup booths featuring startups using Python in their technology stack. Ticket prices start at $100 for the Early Bird (or should we say, Early Python). There will also be a student price at $50. To register, sign up at pycon.sg.

This year’s PyCon SG will be keynoted by Wes McKinney, CTO and co-founder of Lambda Foundry, Inc. From 2010 to 2012, he served as a Python consultant to hedge funds and banks while developing pandas, a widely used Python data analysis library. From 2007 to 2010, he researched global macro and credit trading strategies at AQR Capital Management. He graduated from MIT with an S.B. in Mathematics. He is on leave from the Duke University Ph.D program in Statistics. He also has a new book out Python for Data Analysis.

In addition to the talks, there will be a mix of tutorials aimed at different skill levels. Tutorial topics include: Introduction to Python 101 and Distributed Task Processing using Celery.

Lastly, for the first time in Singapore, there will also be a startup booth showcasing startups using Python in their technology stack. The founders will be on hand to talk about their startup as well as hiring opportunities. Startups include: Billpin, Plivio, Carousell and Flocations.

The full activity listing can be found on the website at pycon.sg/schedule/. For more information, visit pycon.sg.
