A few weeks back, we heard some whispers in the industry that TechCrunch, one of the leading tech blogs in the world, has hired a new writer to be based in Singapore. Now it’s official: Victoria Ho, a journalist from The Business Times as well as former senior writer at ZDNet Asia, is TechCrunch’s latest addition to its team. She will be based in Singapore covering news around Asia, alongside fellow Taipei colleague Catherine Shu.
The team at e27 is really excited that both Victoria and Catherine are here on the ground in our part of Asia discovering and bringing the best Asia tech news onto a global platform. This means a lot: The world and TechCrunch is now paying more attention to our region, and is actively expanding its reach here. This also means that our tech ecosystem as a whole would gain access to a more global audience, be it early adopters around the world, corporates and tech giants around the world, as well as international venture capitalists.
The role of tech media
A very good friend of mine discussed this with me a couple of weeks back: What is the role of the media?
We serve as an intermediary to educate and keep readers informed about what is happening in the scene. We serve as a platform to help new startups and companies reach out to more people. We also help audiences keep companies in check, finding out, which often means questioning what is really happening behind the scenes of companies in the tech scene.
With TechCrunch now setting up its presence in Asia, we are more excited than ever for the whole ecosystem, and look forward to working together with both Victoria and Catherine.
