Federico Folcia is a Italian entrepreneur who loves to travel but sick of hostels and dingy budget hotels and the typical cookie-cutter hotel rooms. Enter the idea of matching travelers for alternatives to hotels for residential accommodations with a local flavour, Roomorama.
Together with his partner, Jia En Teo, Roomorama.com enables anyone to rent out their property to travelers looking for short-term stays. He will be speaking about travel in a panel discussion at Echelon 2012 this June.
“We launched Roomorama out of our own needs when traveling. My partner and I love to travel but we were tired of hostels and dinky budget hotels. However, we didn’t want the typical cookie-cutter chains and we couldn’t always afford the exclusive boutique hotels either. We were always looking for options that were not only value-for-money, but that would also offer a local flavour.
At the same time, we were renting out our own place to travellers while we were away, and making good money doing so. We realised that this was a gap in the market that needed to be filled of matching travellers looking for alternatives to hotels with the owners/providers of such accommodation,” said Jia En Teo, the Co-founder of Roomorama.
