To cash in on the Indian festive season, e-commerce giant Amazon has added furniture to its line of offerings in India through its online store. The launch comes a few months after its Indian rival Flipkart entered the space.

At launch, Amazon’s furniture store will offer around 25,000 products from brands such as Durian, Evok, Royal Oak, Zuari, @Home, Hometown and Lazy Boy, the company said in a statement.

Sumit Sahay, Director Category Management, Amazon India, said the development is in response to requests they have “consistently received” from customers who want easy access to quality furniture. “We are working with sellers to offer installation services, so that the products are ready for use immediately,” he said.

The furniture e-tailing space in India — estimated to be around US$220 billion — is seeing immense traction.

Besides Flipkart, Amazon will face stiff competition from specialised online furniture retailers such as FabFurnish, PepperFry and Urban Ladder.
