Traveloka helps travelers discover the best flight deals, pretty much like what Hipmunk does. According to the company, the service has served over 400,000 flight searches from users in more than 200 different cities since its launch a month ago, in October this year. In terms of user experience, users only need to key in their date and destination of travel. Traveloka will then list all the flights available according to prices by default, with options to sort by Airline as well as time of departure.

The team has announced having “received an investment from early stage investment firm East Ventures,” although the amount and terms of the deal are undisclosed.

The company was founded in mid-2012 by a group of Indonesian engineers returning to the country with work experience in Silicon Valley-based technology companies. Stanford graduate Derianto Kusuma, one of the co-founders of Traveloka, was previously a senior software engineer with LinkedIn. Derianto “[a]bandoned job in the Valley and returned home to pursue the dream of revamping Indonesia’s tech startup ecosystem”, says his LinkedIn profile, reflecting his strong determination to make Traveloka work. Ferry Unardi, who graduated from Harvard and worked for Microsoft, is also a co-founder.

With an extensive Silicon Valley experience and mindset, the Traveloka team is definitely well equipped to bring travel-based deals forward in the competitive online travel industry in Indonesia.
