One-stop educational platform Ruangguru announced they have launched a mobile app to help students consult on homework and assignments with teachers in the platform.
Aiming to provide mobility and ease of consulting for students, the app is currently in beta form and available for Android devices.
With the new app, students can take photos of the problems they are trying to solve, then consult with teachers in the platform through chat messengers or audio calls. Users can chat or talk to a select group of Ruangguru’s 26,000 registered teachers for up to one hour for subjects such as mathematics, English, physics, and chemistry.
“We have curated the best-performing tutors for the app — some of them also happen to be the full-time tutors that we employ,” Ruangguru CEO Iman Usman explained, as quoted by Jakarta Globe.
“Later on, people who are interested [in joining] the app as a side gig can also register and go through our selection process,” he added.
According to Usman, the app is a follow-up to the requests from Ruangguru users.
“Sometimes our users are working on their homework late at night and it is hard for our tutors to reach their place at such hour … That is why we came up with this live tutorial feature to solve the problem,” he said.
The service is available for free until April 15 and the company plans to announce the pricing structure in May.
Ruangguru secured a Series A round from Venturra and East Ventures in September 2015.
It is currently working to gradually include all of the features on Ruangguru, such as test-preparation materials and learning performance evaluation, in this one single app.
