GREE today announced its exclusive partnership with Singapore Telecommunications, SingTel. The partnership enables direct carrier billing for GREE mobile social games distributed on SingTel’s network in Singapore, GREE’s first of such outside of Japan.

This news comes after GREE their partnership with Yahoo! Japan last week.

In the press release, SingTel’s Digital Life Head of Multimedia, Cheon Hai Thoo said, “We are delighted to be the first to offer web-based GREE games with direct billing to our customers on their smartphones. There has been a huge increase in the number of people playing games on their phones and the convenience of paying and receiving one bill while playing GREE’s great range of games is a definite selling point.”

According to GREE’s senior vice president of its Asia-Pacific region business department, Yusuke Amano, “Asia is a key pillar of GREE’s global growth strategy, and by linking up with SingTel’s extensive network we’ll be able to reach a larger-than-ever audience in Singapore. We’re looking forward to bringing the fun of our mobile social games to SingTel customers, putting them in touch with GREE users in Asia and throughout the world.”

Together with the partnership, GREE will be making two of their most popular titles available for SingTel’s subscribers. Ceberus is targeted at male gamers and Be My Princess is popular among Singaporean female smartphone users.

SingTel reported at the end of March this year that it held 45.9 percent of Singapore’s total mobile subscribers. SingTel also has access to over 462 million customers through its regional subsidiaries where its biggest bases are with Bharti Airtel in India and Africa and Telkomsel in Indonesia.

The closing of this partnership looks like the first steps into GREE’s more aggressive expansion outside of Japan. With the possible access to SingTel’s regional networks, it looks like this partnership will be taken to new heights. Other than direct billing, SingTel and GREE will also be engaged in joint marketing initiatives across SingTel channels which includes exclusive game promotions for SingTel mobile customers.
