travelokaOfficially launched in September 2012, Traveloka has came a long way, with its latest Series A announcement from Global Founders Capital. The funding amount is undisclosed. This is Global Founders Capital’s first investment in Asia as a newly set up venture capital fund.

Traveloka helps travelers discover the best flight deals, and it currently ranks as Indonesia’s No. 1 Flight Search and Booking Service (outside official airline websites) according to the leading Internet analytics company comScore. According to the company, the service has served over 400,000 flight searches from users in more than 200 different cities since its launch.

The company was founded in mid-2012 by a group of Indonesian engineers returning to the country with work experience in Silicon Valley-based technology companies. Stanford graduate Derianto Kusuma, one of the co-founders of Traveloka, was previously a senior software engineer with LinkedIn. Traveloka also received a seed funding round from East Ventures.

Following the seed round, Traveloka went on to raise its Series A round from Global Founders Capital, the venture capital fund started by Rocket Internet’s Samwer brothers. The funding will be used to expedite growth, accommodate more talents and add new services such as hotels and packages. According to Ferry Unardi, Managing Director of Traveloka,

“We don’t only provide best flight deals. The combination of our simple, instructive and compelling transactional interface is none to be found elsewhere. In the booking process, users learn to plan their travel smarter and hence more effective.”
