Flexiroam, the Malaysian startup that allows mobile users to save on international mobile roaming charges, has launched their latest marketing campaign – the hunt for the mysterious Malaysian roaming victim who managed to rack up a MYR122,703 (US$37,000) roaming bill while in the United Arab Emirates as reported by The Star.
Flexiroam announced in July that it has been awarded the CIP500 grant through Malaysia’s Cradle Fund amounting to US$152,000. To date, the company has made known that it has helped travelers save more than MYR11.5 million (US$3.5 million) in roaming charges.
If Flexiroam ends up footing the full bill, this US$37,000 marketing campaign would be an interesting one to watch and learn from. While considered expensive to a startup’s wallet, it could very well give this company a publicity boost it is looking for. Flexiroam has been consistently expanding its reach and offering to cover most of the key countries. Check out the email campaign for the roaming victim here.
