LINE releases 'Theme Shop' for Android; sees main app on Firefox
LINE has released its ‘Theme Shop’ on Android for users who want more customisation, along with becoming available on Firefox OS MarketplaceBy Elaine Huang 07 Feb, 2014
Japanese chat app LINE is not to be trifled with. Today, it announced two updates: the global release of its ‘Theme Shop’ on Android devices for users who would like more customisation, and its main app being available on Firefox OS Marketplace.
Introduced in June 2013, LINE’s theme feature has been said to be downloaded more than 200 million times. It had started with original characters, Cony and Brown, and now offers other characters Sally and Leonard at a fee of 150 LINE coins. In the near future, users can look forward to even cuter themes, featuring Hello Kitty and Rilakkuma. These themes can also be sent to friends as gifts, and are supported for 180 days after sales end.
For those users who are more comfortable with a web app, instead of a PC, Mac or mobile platform, LINE’s entry into Firefox Marketplace might sound great. The official statement noted that the chat app will continue to customise its features and advance accessibility for users all around the world.
With over 340 million users, LINE had released a report of its earnings for the last fiscal year. According to the report, 60 per cent of its earnings had come from games. It will also be strengthening its position for games in Taiwan and Thailand, two of its most biggest markets after Japan.
