Created by a Japanese company, Moi Corporation, the service is very popular in Japan and has more than 2.4 million users – 80% from Japan, 10% from Brazil and 10% from other countries. After three years, the company has finally raised $0.64 million from East Ventures and Angel investors.
Due to the sudden growth of the service, the company had been “behind the speed of growth in terms of human resources and system infrastructure,” says Yosuke Akamatsu, CEO of Moi Corporation. Therefore, the recent funding would enable the company to rapidly deliver the good communication platform and acquire the core team members.
The service, which is available on both Apple and Android, has managed to acquire many youths less than 25 years old possibly due to the comedian, Atsushi Tamura who was using the TwitCasting app on his TV show. Most users who visit their service also have the expectation of making new friends online, while doubling it up as a chat app.
In addition to the funding news, the company also announced that Taiga Matsuyama, Partner of East Ventures, have taken board of director seats. In 2010, the company was also awarded a Tokyo Venture Technology Award.
