The time is here for musicians and creatives who wish to extend their creativity into the global platform. Lenovo has just recently collaborated with MTV and announced the launch of the Lenovo-MTV CO:LAB. It is an integrated social platform that enables talented Millennials from the Asia Pacific region to share stories about their communities through music.
The winners will connect and collaborate using their different skill sets to display what it takes to win. Then they will showcase their talents through an original MTV music video production in relation to the theme “Pulse of the World.” This six-month program enables participants to connect with individuals with the same interest, but with different artistic skills: DJs, vocalists/instrumentalists, filmmakers or motion graphic artists. The winning talents across these four categories are determined by public votes through the Lenovo-MTV CO:LAB website and regional mentors.
This platform will go across TV and online while running simultaneously across India, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and the Philippines.
Lenovo-MTV CO:LAB encourages participants to be proactive, and to connect, collaborate and create music using technology. With this in mind, Lenovo and MTV are giving their support to participants by assembling a panel of local and regional mentors. Each mentor is an established individual in his or her own field of expertise, and they will play an important role in guiding participants throughout the entire campaign.
Some of the mentors include contemporary design and art collective, PHUNK, and renowned international DJs Brendon P and Matty Wainwright (both part of the DJ Dispensary). No stranger in the music industry, MTV has been discovering untapped talent in the past. Just recently, musical sensation Ebony Day was the first unsigned artist to win MTV’s “Brand New” for 2013 and was then awarded a dedicated on-air spotlight, online profile page on MTV and an invitation to perform at an MTV live showcase. Similarly, Lenovo-MTV CO:LAB will hunt for talented Singaporeans who want to break into the music industry.

Lenovo-MTV CO:LAB aims to help realise Millenials’ dreams says Jessie Quek, Country General Manager, Lenovo Singapore. By engaging with MTV, Lenovo-MTV CO:Lab is a stepping stone in reaching out to talented youths as MTV is the iconic destination for global Millenials. Tan Sian Ju, Vice President of MTV & Comedy Central Brands, Viacom International Media Networks Asia said that for the next half year, it will be an interesting partnership as they support each participant in this collaboration and showcase their creative talents.
A full scale promotional campaign will be held in Singapore and other participating markets, and the regional finalists also get the access to mentors, attend workshops and be featured in local and regional media.
