PT. Trikomsel Oke Tbk is Indonesia’s biggest telecommunications distributor and retailer, with about 1,100 owned retail outlets and 15,000 independent retailers across Indonesia, with a presence in 175 cities across 33 provinces. The company runs branded shops like Okeshop and Global Teleshop, which now also carry notebook computers in their product lineups. Brightstar Corp., meanwhile, is a specialized wireless distributor and global services company, serving mobile device manufacturers, wireless operators and retailers, with a local presence on six continents.

The joint-venture, which will launch the second quarter of 2013, aims to become the leading VAS provider in the wireless device industry catering to Indonesia, as well as select markets in Southeast Asia. Aside from distributing mobile devices and other connected devices, the JV will also deliver supply-chain services for operators, retailers and OEMs interested in tapping opportunities in Indonesia.

Trikomsel president director Sugiono Wiyono Sugialam said this joint venture will create new lines of business, which the company expects to boost overall performance and drive growth. “Strategic wireless services such as supply chain optimization, multi-channel and value-added distribution, handset protection, and buy-back and trade-in solutions are becoming increasingly important in the Indonesian market, and Brightstar is a global leader in these fields. The joint venture is a perfect opportunity to bring best-in-class global solutions to our customers and consumers throughout Indonesia and beyond.”

Meanwhile, Brightstar CEO Marcelo Claure said Trikomsel is the ideal partner given its coverage of the Indonesian market. “We see tremendous opportunities to leverage Brightstar’s leading wireless services, technologies and platforms with Trikomsel’s deep market knowledge, in-country execution capabilities and strong customer base.”
