Twenty-three startups from Brazil, India and Indonesia are set to depart for the Google Launchpad Accelerator programme, which was launched in December 2015. From January 17-30, they will participate in an all-expense paid trip to Mountain View in California for the first round of the programme, in the form of a two-week bootcamp.

Indonesian startups departing to the event are personal finance app Jojonomic, parental control app Kakatu, online degree programmes paltform Haruka Edu, online matchmaking service Setipe, job marketplace for disabled professional Kerjabilitas, content and news platform Kurio, and aquaculture technology eFishery.

As another Asian country represented in the event, eight Indian startups are selected to participate in the event.

The programme consists of a six-month course that offers mentorship, training, support and equity-free funding to mobile startups.

“This is a good opportunity because we will receive mentorship from experts at Google,” said Razi Thalib, Founder of Setipe, in a Jakarta Globe report.

According to him, the opportunity will allow him to further develop design, technology and marketing skills.

“We have to admit that Indonesians still lack those three factors when compared to other countries,” he stated.

As told by Head of Google’s Startup programme Roy Glasberg to TechCrunch, the event was born out of Google’s existing Launchpad programme for startups and its global series of events.

“The end goal … is to identify game changers in the market and be the game changer for them,” he said.

During the two-week bootcamp, participants are going to be running individualised tasks given by mentors, half of whom are Google employees.

Back at home, they will be given a work space and access to Google’s local and international network of mentors. They will also received credits to use Google’s developer platforms.

In the long run, Google aim to build an alumni network from the programme and expand it to other countries.
