Having secured e-payment license from Bank Indonesia, Go-Jek’s cashless payment service Go-Pay continues on expanding its QR code-based payment service in the country. The company started by working together with the Amil Zakat National Agency (Baznas) to celebrate the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.
A number of street food stalls in Bulungan, Blok M, South Jakarta have also begun implementing Go-Pay’s QR code-based payment service. Prior to the launch, the QR code-based payments can only be used in Go-Jek’s internal events such as the Go-Food Festival.
“We are going to be more expansive in installing the QR codes in various locations,” said Go-Pay Managing Director Budi Gandasoebrata on Wednesday, May 16.
Go-Pay is also now available on e-commerce sites that offer QR code-based payments. Based on observation by DailySocial, fashion line Cottonink is one of those sites. The site offers Go-Pay as a payment option where customers will be redirected to a Midtrans Snap page to complete their transactions.
After opening their Go-Jek app, customers can pick the Scan QR option and direct their phone’s camera to the QR code on the screen.
In their partnership with Baznas, Go-Pay begins by spreading their QR codes on various media around Greater Jakarta Area, from billboards, Baznas outlets in 12 shopping malls, 20 office buildings, to other public facilities. The programme will eventually be rolled out across Indonesia.
“Not only that this method will provide ease for the public [in making donations], but the donations will also be recorded in our system, making it more transparent. This is part of our effort to improve our service to the society,” said Baznas Deputy Arifin Purwakananta.
Online donations have become the institution’s go-to way to increase donations, which has been experiencing a 40 per cent increase. According to Baznas, digital channels contribute to around 30 per cent of total donations.
This year Baznas aims to raise IDR8 trillion (US$568 million) of donations with IDR3 trillion (US$213 million) gathered throughout Ramadan. The institution expects to secure at least IDR2 billion (US$142,000) through its partnership with Go-Pay.
