‘OLX Pe Bech De’ (Sell it on OLX) has managed to become a household tag line (and not to mention source of many jokes; a quick search through internet can lead you to many jokes) in India lately. With users getting accustomed to its snap, upload and sell pattern, the online classified ads website’s mobile application accomplished six million downloads.
OLX claims that its buying and selling application has been ranked #27 among all free apps on Google Play Store India. Also, it claims that the mobile app has a 4.4/5 user rating on Google Play Store India based on 84,000 consumer reviews.
Expressing “thrill” over the response for the app, Amarjit Batra, CEO, OLX.in, said, “We will continue to innovate and improvise in order to provide our users with a better and a more rewarding experience.”
OLX claims that mobile contributes more than 60 per cent of its overall traffic; and that the website has seen regular visits from Tier-II and -III cities, “growing at 700% in 2013 alone”.
Another figure that OLX has shared is that three-fourth of these six million plus downloads have come from Android devices.
The online portal created its mobile feature site in 2008 and launched its mobile application in 2009. OLX competes directly with websites such as Quickr and Sulekha.com. With all the websites trying to have a share in the m-commerce pie, it will be interesting to see how OLX manages to keep itself different.
