Chinese e-commerce giant JD launched a new service for its users in Indonesia in the form of new retail store JDVirtual. JDVirtual can now be found at Commuter Line train stations in Greater Jakarta Area: Jakarta Kota, Sudirman, Sudimara, Juanda, Gondangdia, Cikini, Tebet, Pasar Minggu, and Depok Baru.
JDVirtual sells food, beverages, and other grocery products that are usually found in conventional retail stores. The retail store was designed to make it easier for customers to choose the products that they want to buy; the products will eventually be delivered to the address on the JD mobile app.
In addition to trying out a new model, the initiative is also part of the effort to adjust to the high mobility level of Commuter Line users in Jakarta.
Based on data by PT Kereta Commuter Indonesia on its official site, by June the average number of Commuter Line users reached one million people, with the highest record of passengers being served in a day reaching 1,154,080 people.
JD has previously introduced the online-to-offline (O2O) concept in Indonesia through the launch of JD.ID X futuristic store at PIK Avenue in early August. The difference between JD.ID X and JDVirtual is that while payments are being made through the mobile app, customers purchased the products in store and bring them home themselves.
Using QR code for purchase
Implementing QR code technology, JDVirtual offers a modern way to shop by highlighting borderless and cashless shopping concept. Users of JD.ID app can immediately purchase the products by scanning the codes on JDVirtual. The transaction process, including the payments, are being done in the JD.ID app.
JD aims to provide new shopping experience for its customers through JDVirtual. There is a possibility that the facilities will be installed on other transportation strategic points such as bus terminals or airports.
“The customers are our inspiration in doing business in Indonesia. We believe that with JDVirtual, a borderless shopping concept will provide a real solution for modern retail industry, while also helping to run our mandate to help bring Indonesia forward,” said JD.ID President Director Zhang Li.
