With the likes of established dating apps Paktor and Tinder doing so well in Asia, smaller developers continue trying to explore new takes on such apps to differentiate themselves from being seen as just another Tinder.
But the comparisons naturally abound. This time Singapore-based MeetDrinks wants to be “Tinder but without chatting”. Looking to bring singles together over drinks, the app has today launched on Android and iOS.
“Just in time for the year end, we see that people will be more inclined to go for drinks and cut loose. MeetDrinks could be the perfect app for people to meet up for dates or just gatherings with friends. MeetDrinks is active in Singapore, Bangkok, Shanghai and soon will be in three more cities,” Peter Yu, Head of Public Relations, MeetDrinks told e27.
“We are giving out free MeetDrinks credits as well. Through our referral code programme, users can generate a unique code that they can forward to their friends. Each successful referral will get them SG$2.50 (US$2) in drinks. Once they have SG$10 (US$8), they can start inviting people out,” he added.
Users can get started by creating a profile with their basic interests, taking or uploading a profile picture, and inputing their location. The app will suggest matches of people based on location and mutual interests — directing them to a venue when a match is made.
MeetDrinks is primarily targeting professionals in its launch markets. Reservations and pre-orders for drinks can be made through the app, including payments. The startup has partnered with “conducive venues for dates”.
Southeast Asia’s dating market is predicted to be worth up to US$500 million by 2018.
