Vidiyama Sonekh, Country Head, Zodio (Indonesia), told e27 that the platform will be useful for tourists — both domestic and international — to discover and explore.
Founded in 2011 by Jai Govindani, Zodio was officially launched in Thailand in March 2012, and later in August, the same year in Philippines. It came to Indonesia in December 2013 and plans to expand to Malaysia and India in the second half of this year.
Zodio provides locations, tips and reviews on a variety of Point-of-Interest (POI) ranging from restaurants, cinemas, ATMs, nightclubs and spas. The service is available through its website on the desktop and iOS in the mobile space.
Sonekh claims that there are nearly 1.6 million Indonesian POIs listed on the social location-based platform, and around 3,000 registered users from the country. “We expect to have 2,000,000 POIs and 50,000 users, in the near future, mainly contributing from cities like Jakarta, Bandung, Surabaya, Bali and Jogjakarta,” he adds.
Zodio, recently partnered with Australian hotel price comparison website HotelsCombined to offer hotel rate comparisons to its users. The features can be directly accessed from the app. Sonekh says that the tir-up with HotelsCombined.com, gives Zodio access to over 800,000 hotels around the globe and is available in more than 40 languages and 120 currencies.
Hotel bookings too can be completed from within the app, allowing users direct access to listings from Expedia, Hotels.com and Venere, among others.

Zodio’s revenue model, depends largely on customising packages for businesses, including hotels and tour & travel operators. The Premium Business Account offers review prioritisation, POI videos, and a booking engine. According to Sonekh more customisation options will be added in the future. The app can be used by members to redeem their points for hotel discount vouchers, or for discounts in airfare, concert tickets and free dinner at channel partners.
Sonekh feels that users find videos interesting and playful, and that’s what made Zodio include the feature, even though only a small user set views videos due to poor internet speed.
Zodio is planning to come up with a massive country-wide mobile campaign in Indonesia and is in talks with telco-operators for the same. The goal of the campaign is to increase the number of app download and its users.
